Topic: Career Opportunities in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Geethanjali Institute of Science & Technology (Autonomous), organized a guest lecture on “Career Opportunities for Mechanical Engineering Students” on 31st January 2026 for the benefit of II Year and III Year Mechanical Engineering students. The programme was organized to strengthen industry–academia interaction and bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations.
The session was delivered by Sri Thummuru Sarathkumar, an alumnus of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Batch 2012–2016), currently working as a Technical Support Specialist at Anoviatech Solutions Private Limited, Bangalore. He has over eight years of professional experience across IT and non-IT domains. The programme was graced by Dr. N. Padma Sravya, HOD, Mechanical Engineering; Dr. Ch. Sreenivasa Rao, Senior Faculty; and Mr. Y. Murali Krishna, Alumni Department Coordinator.
The speaker discussed diverse career opportunities available to mechanical engineering graduates in core and allied sectors. The session covered career avenues in design, manufacturing, production, quality, maintenance and R&D, along with emerging opportunities in IT, technical support, automation and cross-domain technical roles. He emphasized the importance of CAD/CAM, automation platforms, domain certifications, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, resume preparation, interview skills and project/portfolio presentation.
An interactive Question-and-Answer session was conducted, during which students raised queries regarding skill development, resume preparation, placements, higher studies, employment opportunities and industry expectations. The resource person provided practical guidance based on his professional experience. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks and felicitation of the speaker by the department.
Outcome of the Programme: The guest lecture enhanced students’ awareness of career pathways in core and allied sectors and motivated them to develop relevant technical and soft skills. It also strengthened interaction between the institute, alumni and industry.
