Code of Ethics for Research

Objective

Promotion and enrichment of the quality of research practices and publications among scholars and faculty communities

Introduction

Geethanjali Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Nellore is committed to maintain and encourage the quality research in engineering core field. It has derived its own stated code of Ethics for checking malpractices and plagiarism in academic research. Hence Plagiarism, academic malpractices either by faculty or students are unacceptable in research and need to be curbed.  GIST insists the faculty members and students to be aware of the intricacies of plagiarism and maintain the originality of their works in article publishing process. So, following certain code of ethics in research conduct and publication is essential to maintain the integrity and dignity of the Institution and quality of the research works as well.

Plagiarism detection Methods

An exclusive Research and Development Committee is constituted to enhance the quality of academic research in the institution. The committee comprises all PhD holders of the institute to assess the faculty researcher / PG student, who produce their work in the form of Research Publication / Research Proposal / Thesis Work / Project Report. This team aims at verifying the levels of plagiarism in the research work and ensures high academic and production standards.

The Project Guide and the Scholars are advised to use online plagiarism check tools for even inadvertent copying of materials. Faculty members pursuing PhD are expected to maintain plagiarism between 15-30% and the same to be approved by R & D Committee headed by HoD/R&D before submitting to International/National Conferences or Journals for publication.

Disciplinary Action

Resorting to any malpractices or violation of the standard ethics of plagiarism in research works will be viewed seriously depending on the degree of plagiarism. The R&D Committee will submit the report after thorough investigation and recommends disciplinary action where necessary based on the gravity of the lapse, to be imposed within the stipulated period.

Plagiarism and types and levels can be accessed from the following sources.

All the works carried out by the students and faculty as part of research, University academic projects, extension projects, journals or conference papers to be submitted in national/ international level are thoroughly verified by the R&D Committee scrupulously adhering to the following procedures for PG level projects:

  • Submission of abstract/proposal.
  • Verification of the abstract/proposal by senior faculty members in the departments.
  • Recommendations of the Committee for the next level of work.
  • Presentation of work through PPT as per schedule periodically by the faculty team in all departments.
  • Plagiarism check and report forwarded to HOD/ R&D through concerned HODs.
  • Submission of the work in International/National conference or journals for publication or University after the approval of the R&D Committee.

For plagiarism checking of thesis/project report, our institution has license to Plagiarism Checker X 2019 Professional Edition.

National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content(N-LIST)

Background

The Project entitled “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)”, was jointly executed by the e-ShodhSindhu Consortium, INFLIBNET Centre and the INDEST-AICTE Consortium, IIT Delhi provides for i) cross-subscription to e-resources subscribed by the two Consortia, i.e. subscription to INDEST-AICTE resources for universities and e-ShodhSindhu resources for technical institutions; and ii) access to selected e-resources to colleges. The N-LIST project provides access to e-resources to students, researchers and faculty from colleges and other beneficiary institutions through server(s) installed at the INFLIBNET Centre. The authorized users from colleges can now access e-resources and download articles required by them directly from the publisher’s website once they are duly authenticated as authorized users through servers deployed at the INFLIBNET Centre.

N-LIST: Four Components

The project has four distinct components, i.e. i ) to subscribe and provide access to selected e-ShodhSindhu e-resources to technical institutions (IITs, IISc, IISERs and NITs) and monitor its usage; ii) to subscribe and provide access to selected INDEST e-resources to selected universities and monitor its usage; iii) to subscribe and provide access to selected e-resources to 6,000 Govt./ Govt.-aided colleges and monitor its usage; and iv) to act as a Monitoring Agency for colleges and evaluate, promote, impart training and monitor all activities involved in the process of providing effective and efficient access to e-resources to colleges.

The INDEST and UGC-INFONET are jointly responsible for activity listed at i) and ii) above. The INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad is responsible for activities listed at iii) and iv) above. The INFLIBNET Centre is also responsible for developing and deploying appropriate software tools and techniques for authenticating authorized users.

Our Institution is the member of INFLIBNET. All the faculty members are permitted to access INFLIBNET (N-LIST).

About National Digital Library

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find out the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDL India is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for leading Indian languages. It is being arranged to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular form of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is being developed to help students to prepare for entrance and competitive examination, to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. The pilot project is devising a framework that is being scaled up with respect to content volume and diversity to serve all levels and disciplines of learners. It is being developed at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

Our Institution is the member of NDL. Each faculty member is holding unique IDs to access NDL.

PARISHODHANA (In-House Journal)

PREFACE

The PARISHODHANA, an In-House Journal of Science and Technology, launched from Geethanjali Institute of Science & Technology, Nellore, aims at providing a forum to the research community for presentation of original work, reviews and discussion of latest developments in various fields of engineering. Research culture should form an integral part of an Engineering College and a Technical Journal with papers and articles exclusively contributed by the faculty members of the College will go a long way in inculcating the apt research culture in the institution. This In house Journal of Science and Technology, the first issue of which is being launched, is an attempt in this direction. The current volume contains research papers as well as perceptive articles by the staff and students of the college. The papers span a wide range including basic sciences and management science, apart from the engineering disciplines.

This Journal is a culmination of our efforts in adding a scientific and technological flavour to the services that are offered from GIST. The scenario of globalization had provoked the theme of quality and standard blended with high level of competence amongst the industrial sectors. The present day technological advancements are more rapid and recommend an amalgamated Engineering curriculum warranting students to equip with creative thoughts and multi level skills.

This Journal shall motivate the young minds to put forward their technical ideas in a lucid way and develop the art of publishing one’s own technical findings. This issue is exclusively devoted for publishing the research/project works carried out experimentally, analytically or both in different fields of Science, Engineering and Technology. I wish the editorial Board for their strenuous efforts in making this issue blossom with contents. Indeed such efforts are never possible for us without the stupendous support of our noble and service minded Management members.

Hope it enlightens and will knock the doors of numerous enthusiastic readers every year. This is a open platform and the faculty members and students to contribute by sending their valuable technical articles for publication.
