The Department of Electronics and Communication organized an industrial visit to the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Gadanki, to provide students with practical exposure to advanced atmospheric research, radar technology, weather monitoring systems, and scientific instrumentation. The visit helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications in atmospheric science, electronics, communication systems, computer science, and data analysis.
NARL is an autonomous research laboratory under the Department of Space (DoS), Government of India, dedicated to atmospheric and space science research. It is one of India’s premier research institutions for studying atmospheric dynamics, weather, climate, and ionospheric processes.

1.The primary objectives of the industrial visit to the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Gadanki were:To understand atmospheric research activities carried out at NARL and their significance in weather forecasting, climate studies, and space research.
2. To observe the application of engineering concepts in radar systems, remote sensing, signal processing, embedded systems, data acquisition, and communication technologies.
3. To interact with scientists and researchers to understand current research methodologies, technological advancements, and career opportunities in research organizations.
4. To enhance students technical knowledge, analytical thinking, and research orientation by observing real-world scientific experiments and engineering applications.

After completing the necessary security checks and administrative formalities, the students were welcomed to the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Gadanki. The visit began with an introductory presentation on the history, objectives, and research activities of NARL, highlighting its contributions to atmospheric science, weather forecasting, and space research.
The students visited the MST Radar Facility, where scientists explained its role in studying atmospheric winds and weather phenomena. They also visited the LIDAR Laboratory, Automatic Weather Station (AWS), and Radiosonde Facility, where they learned about atmospheric measurements, remote sensing techniques, and weather data collection. Later, the students observed the High Performance Computing (HPC) Centre and Data Processing Facility, where atmospheric data is analyzed for weather prediction and climate research.The industrial visit to NARL provided students with practical exposure to advanced atmospheric research facilities and modern scientific instruments. The visit helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, enhanced their understanding of atmospheric science and remote sensing technologies, and inspired them to explore research and career opportunities in organizations such as ISRO and the Department of Space. Overall, the visit was an informative and enriching learning experience.
