Geethanjali Institute of science and Technology celebrated Pongal with gaiety during a function got up under the joint auspices of the women protection cell and National Service Scheme. Attired in conventional costumes, women faculty and students were prepared the ‘pongal’ and offered worship to Sun God marking significance of the festival.
For Andhraites, the festivities associated with Sankranti take on a grand hue. For many the festival evokes fond memories and of grand rangolis with gobbemmalu, bhogi mantallu (bonfire), bhogi pallu (a manner of blessing children), making and feasting on pongal, listening to the devotional songs sung by Haridasulu and offering them rice or similar donations, revering the Gangireddu sweets, new clothes, gifts, feasting, family, friends.
Students also participated in the Rangoli Event on this occasion. “This is one of the annual celebrations at the college with a view to inculcating values of our tradition and culture to the students,” said a press release from the college.
