Report on National Space Day 2025

10 students of II Year ECE along with 1 staff coordinator attended the National Space Day – 2025 organized by Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. National Space Day holds a major role for India as it celebrates the country’s advancements in space exploration and the contributions of ISRO to the global space community. National Space Day 2025 is celebrated to commemorate the historic achievement of Chandrayaan-3’s successful soft landing on the Moon’s south pole in 2023 — a global first for India. The theme for National Space Day 2025 “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities” reflects India’s journey from the ancient astronomer Aryabhatta’s discoveries to modern-day missions such as the upcoming Gaganyaan human spaceflight. The celebration aims to foster scientific curiosity, promote space research awareness, and inspire young minds to contribute to the nation’s growing space sector.

Dignitaries on the dais

The inaugural function started at 09:45 A.M. A senior scientist from ISRO delivered about the importance and formation of national space day. The celebration began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a welcome address by shri M. Prasad who emphasized India’s pivotal role in space exploration.

Shri S. Muthuchezhian, Associate Director, SDSC SHAR spoke about the highlights of national space day. He also explained about the various events organized in different locations. Shri M. Srinivasulu Reddy Controller, SDSC SHAR enlightened about the theme of National Space Day.

Shri Padmakumar E S, Distinguished Scientist & Director, SDSC SHAR spoke about the various pre launch activities happened in 2024 & 2025. He also explained about the chandrayan mission. Aryabhata was india’s first satellite marking the beginning of its space exploration journey.

Though small, it laid the foundation for indias future achievements like chandrayaan and mangalyaan. Aryabhatta explained the heliocentric model of solar system. He says that moon and planets shine due to reflected sunlight. There are usually 67 technology areas identified as “critical” by DRDO & government of india. This mission gave ISRO confidence and expertise in space engineering. The mission opened doors for future planentory missions.

Shri Padmakumar E S explained about previous launch activities that took place at SDSC SHAR. Later prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions organized in different schools and colleges and introduced the chief guest Prof. T. Ramasamy, Former Secretary, DST, Govt. of India.

Felicitating the Chief Guest

At the end sundaram sir gave vote of thanks of the inaugural function and followed by national anthem.

Dr. Manu Santhanam, Dean, IC&SR, IIT Madras gave a brief overview about IIT Madras.

  • Various fields that involved in funding projects.
  • 15 center of excellence funded by IOE.

He also delivered speech on 3D printing. 3D printing in construction is a modern technique that offers fast, economical and eco-friendly building solutions and in emerging as a revolutionary method in the construction industry. 3D printing also called additive manufacturing is a technology where building structures are created layer by layer using special materials like concrete polymers etc. This is helpful for low cost housing and disaster relief shelters.

Dr. Aravind S Bharadwaj, Founder, Director & CEO of TuTr Hyperloop focused on the concept of hyperloop. TuTr hyperloop is a deep-tech startup incubated at IIT Madras developing next-generation hyperloop technologies focused on ultra high speed energy. The goal of this hyperloop is to deliver affordable scalable hyperloop system – passengers and cargo. He constructed Asia’s first 410 meter hyperloop test track at IIT Madras discovery campus.

At the end around 4:30 P.M panel discussion has been conducted about the challenges and opportunities for india’s space sector. The panel members are, Dr. T. Ramasami, Dr. Manu Santhanam, Dr. Aravind S Bharadwaj, P A Saravana Perumal, G. Appanna and K. Sangeetha. The students from various colleges and schools & the engineers working at SDSC SHAR participated

in the panel discussion.

The event successfully created a sense of pride and curiosity among students and faculty. Many attendees expressed interest in pursuing careers in aerospace engineering, astronomy, and related research fields. By connecting India’s ancient astronomical wisdom with modern space achievements, National Space Day 2025 reminded everyone that the sky is not the limit — it’s just the beginning.
