NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS HELD AT GIST ON 28.02.2025
National Science Day Celebrations commemorating the invention of Raman Effect by a renowned Indian scientist Sir C. V. Raman were held at GIST with great pomp and fanfare on 28-02-2025. Speaking on the occasion after garlanding the portrait of Sir C. V. Raman, Dr. G. Subba Rao, Director said that contemporary scientific advancement could be traced to the ancient Vedic literature, originated in India. He stated that sciences such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, medicine, astronomy, astrology and aviation were known to ancient Indians almost five thousand years ago. He urged the students to cultivate scientific temper and contribute to the scientific progress of the nation.
Addressing the students on the occasion, Dr. Sundeep Kumar. K, Principal exhorted the students to acquire a strong grip on the fundamental concepts of engineering and keep themselves updated with the ever-evolving technologies to stay relevant in the employment scenario where nearly 30 lakh engineering graduates come out from IITs, NITs, government universities, deemed universities and autonomous institutions every year intensifying the prevailing competition and among them only 50000 to 1 lakh graduates were grabbing employment opportunities. He underscored the importance of learning new technologies to survive in the competitions.
Speaking on the occasion Dr P.M Kishore, HOD, S&H department said that every year National Science Day was being organized by the department to promote Passion and interest among the students for science with the objective of enriching the young minds and creating awareness among the engineering students, about the new scientific developments. A technical expo, displaying working science models was organized, he said.
In connection with the event students presented working science models on “rain water harvesting”, ”sensors operation”, “water level measurement tools”, which turned out to be special attraction of the event.
In the Valedictory ceremony prizes were distributed to the winners in general quiz and poster presentations competitions.
