National Mathematics Day Celebrated on a Grand Scale

National Mathematics was observed with a great deal of power and fanfare at GIST on Sunday commemorating the birth anniversary of the renowned Indian mathematician Sri. S. Ramanujan. The programme was conducted jointly by the department of S & H and the N.S.S unit of GIST.

After garlanding the photograph of Sri Ramanujan , Dr. K. Sundeep Kumar, Principal Said that ancient Indian mathematician like Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya, Varahamihira made everlasting contributions to the field of Indian mathematics, and upheld the glory of Indian civilization. Mr. Sundeep Kumar lauded the invaluable service of the maths genius Sri. S. Ramanujan, who earned the admiration of even foreign mathematicians as Hardy, who collaborated with Ramanujan in research work.

Paying floral tributes to Ramanujan, Dr. P. M. Kishore , H.O.D, S & H Department said that the current generation of engineering students should emulate the example of Ramanujan and excel in mathematics through extensive research work as the latest trends in advanced technology are strongly linked with mathematics.

Mr. Y. Murali Krishna, N.S.S programme officer, the faculty of S & H, other HOD’s and students took part in the event.
