“MANUFACTURING & TESTING OF TRANSFORMER”

Dr.T.N.V.L.N.Kumar Sir & Mr.M.RAJESH Sir had played a precious role on the time of industrial visit. Along with 4 faculty members 60 members of students (III EEE) visited “Weber India infra power”(pvt.limited) located in venkatachelam. With the guidance of Mr.Mahidhar.T (General Manager of the industry).

On 26 the September we along with 4 faculty members went to “Weber India Infra Power” industry by 9:00 AM and had reached 10:30 AM, there we had gained lot of information regarding manufacturing of transformers. Mr T. Mahidher had delivered brief information about transformers. Before going to application, we have certain steps

  1. Shaping of body parts (cutting part)
  2. Welding part
  3. Painting
  4. Windings
  5. Conservator part
  6. Testing by using kelvins double bridge
  7. Installation
  8. Application

Mr T.Mahidher sir had explained all the parameters of manufacturing& testing.

  1. Cutting part: this should by labours who are working in industry. This work should be completed within time period of 3 days. By using oxygen gas we are going to shaping the transformer body. oxygen gas is preferred to quiet and accurate shaping and it should be get form” Gar Plant”.
  2. Welding section: The second part is welding. There are two drilling machines based on the prescribed shapes and this work also completed within 2-3 days.
  3. Painting: people who are in the industry they use spray type of painting machine to get shining and equal layers of painting. The painting should be completed within half day
  4. Conservator part: The conservator part should be sharpened with prescribed measurements and should be in cylindrical hallow shape.
  1. Windings: The windings are made up of copper and aluminium. Copper is more preferable because short capability and high conductivity along with high life time. These are 2 types. 1. Primary (11 kv). 2.Secondary (250 v). Based on requirement of step up and step-down we design low voltage and high voltage coils. We have losses of eddy current losses that should be minimised by increasing resistance of core and hysteresis that should be minimised by using prescribed material (Eg : silicon steel) process.
  2. Testing by using Kelvin’s double bridge: By using Kelvin’s double bridge we are going to set and measure resistance should be same before going to installation. That should be measured between any two phases.
  3. Installation: The installation should be completed by placing windings in the oil and fill the one by third part of conservator with pure oil. We use tap changes for tabooing and conservator have breathes with silica gel for balancing its own characteristics of temperature inside transformer and exit should be provided means hot air should be excited to the nature.
  4. Applications: Finally after testing a transformer get into masked for various fields like  industrial, domestic  and irrigation purpose etc…..in that industry the cost of transformer varies between 4 lakh to 12 lakhs. The manufacturing and installation should finished within 7-9 days.

Finally we had gained a lot of knowledge regarding transformer. We are thankful to T.Mahidhar “general manager of industry”. After our visiting we had return back to our institute safely by 3:30pm. Once again we thankful to our faculty for providing this opportunity.
