NSS SPECIAL CAMP REPORT

DAY – 1
10th February 2014
SCHOOL GROUND LEVELLING
As a part of the NSS programme at Siddhipuram village in Sangam mandal, the ground of the M.P.P. Upper Primary School was levelled by the N.S.S volunteers of Geetanjali Institute of Science & Technology, on 10 Feb 2014. The programme was supervised by the N.S.S program officer Mr. P. Ranjith Krishna, and Physical director Mr. P. Ashok Kumar. Villagers thanked the N.S.S volunteers profusely for the wonderful job they did. The villagers Sura Srinivasula Reddy and Tumalla Vamsi are much helpful in providing a tractor and offering help during the work.

COMPETITIONS HELD FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
Essay writing and Elocution Competition were conducted in the two schools at Siddipuram village, Sangam Mandal on 11-02-2014, Tuesday. The M.P.P. Upper Primary School students and M.P.P. Primary School children were actively participated in the events. Prizes were distributed to the winners of all the events. A total of 85 pupils received note books and pencils. The programme met with a wonderful response from the students. The Head Master of M.P.P. Upper Primary School, Mr. P. Thanisha acknowledged the gesture of NSS team with thanks. The Head Mistress of M.P.P. Primary School, Mrs. N. Praveena appreciated the job did by NSS unit and thanked for selecting their school for these events.

BLOOD CAMP
A voluntary Blood donation camp was conducted at Siddhipuram village on 12-02-2014, Wednesday. The initiative was taken up by the N.S.S students program in association with blood bank of DSR Govt. District Hospital, Nellore. In all, 47 units of blood were donated to the blood bank. Dr. Sesha Ratnam, Incharge blood bank, DSR Govt. District Hospital sought to dispel many misgivings and wrong notations about blood donations among the general public. She called upon the general public to come forward voluntarily to donate the blood as a noble gesture to save lives and one can save three lives by donating one unit of blood.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.G. Subba Rao, Principal said that the NSS team is in the forefront of conducting such humanitarian programmes, espousing social causes. Dr. Sesha Ratnam, Incharge blood bank DSR Govt. District Hospital appreciated the noble gesture of GIST and presented Dr.G.Subba Rao with a momento.

VILLAGE SAMPLE SURVEY
A village sample survey on health and hygiene was conducted by the NSS volunteers from GIST as part of N.S.S activity on 13th, Feb., 2014, Thursday. The N.S.S volunteers went round the village and conducted a sample survey interacting with the villagers and collecting relevant data from them in respect of health and hygiene.
The Volunteers visited different parts of the village and also gathered house hold profile. Besides awareness, campaign was held by the students to sensitize the villagers to environmental, air and water pollutions. Protective and precautionary measures to be the initiated to prevent the breakout of Dengue Fever, Malaria, and Bird flu by keeping the surroundings clean and maintaining personal hygiene. The programme evoked good response from the villagers. The villagers thanked the students and faculty for their welcome initiative.

EYE CAMP
The N.S.S unit of GIST undertook the initiative of organising an “Eye Camp” at Siddhipuram village on 14, Feb, 2014, i.e. Friday, in association with the Vasan Eye Care Hospital, Nellore. As part of the programme Eye tests were conducted for the villagers free of cost.
The Eye specialist from Vasan Eye care hospitals offered counselling to the villagers regarding protection of Eyes and prevention of Eye-diseases. Around 150 villagers were diagnosed and given medicine and drops for free of cost to the needy. Around one hundred old people were benefited by the camp.

TREE PLANTATION
A tree plantation programme was organised at the M.P.P. Primary School, Siddhipuram village, sangam mandal, by the N.S.S unit of GIST, More than 100 saplings were planted under the initiative with the objective of creating and promoting the awareness among the children about the maintenance of ecological equilibrium to save the planet earth from the progressive depletion of ozone layer and emission of green house gases in the atmosphere.
The importance of reforestation was emphasized during the interaction sessions with the school pupils. The program turned out to be a grand success with the participations of the children. And few saplings were distributed to school pupils to motivate them in nurturing the environment.
DAY – 7
16th FEBRUARY 2014
RECREATION ACTIVITIES AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Recreation activities such as games, storytelling were conducted for the MPP Upper Primary school children at Siddhipuram village, Sangam Mandal on 16th March 2014 as a part of the N.S.S initiative of GIST .The programme also constituted a environmental awareness session for the primary school children. The N.S.S volunteers educated the children about the need to preserve and protect the natural resources such as pure air and water for the survival of the life on earth in future and the children were greatly benefited from this programme. The volunteers also distributed Carroms and Badminton kits to the school children.
The Head Master Mr. P. Thanisha thanked the NSS volunteers, Principal and the NSS program officer for conducting such wonderful camp for the benefit of school children and village locality.
The NSS camp came to close with bubbling enthusiasm. All the volunteers vowed to personally contribute to the welfare of society and be a part of improving the quality of life in the rural areas.
