A Report on International Women’s Day
International women’s day celebrations were organized with much gaiety and fanfare at GIST on 08.03.2020. The theme of this year is “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”. IWD (International Women’s Day”) defines this as “a necessity in upholding human rights” .The 2020s is called the Decade of Action to implement the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” The event was conducted under women forum of GIST. All women staff both teaching and non-teaching participated in the event with zeal and enthusiasm.
Participating in the event Dr.G.Subbarao , Principal, said that women could think more rationally and logically in the process of solving certain intractable problems and challenges afflicting the society. He cited the examples of Nirmala Sitaraman and Smriti Irani who are holding high positions in Government of India as Ministry of Finance; and Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Ministry of Women and Child Development; and Ministry of Textile respectively exhibiting outstanding caliber, character and competency in leading the country into the advanced league of nations.
Dr. P. Naga Sowjanya,HoD/CE,GIST , the Chief Guest expressed her happiness that the society is gradually evolving from the concept of women’s emancipation to the concept of women empowerment.
Dr.Y.Jahnavi, Dr.CH.Kalyani, Dr.S.Sumalatha,Ms.K.Vijaya and women staff took part in the event. The event was concluded with a cake being cut to celebrate the International Women’s Day.
