The first international yoga day celebrated under the auspices of N.S.S of GIST on 21-06-15 as per the directives received from MHRD of government of India to promote yoga among the students and faculty by bringing awareness about the benefits of yoga such as building emotional harmony, peace of mind and healthy body. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Shri M. Ravindra, said that ‘yogashastra’ propounded by Patanjali is an integral part of Indian spiritual, cultural traditions and forms part of timelers Indian heritage.
Yoga plays a very crucial role in bringing the emotions under control, building harmony and paves the way for peace of mind, while exercising a curative effect on many chronic diseases and has assumed global prominence. Even many MNCs across the world are encouraging their employees to practice yoga for better productivity and concentration. Dr. G. Subba Rao, Principal, addressing the students and faculty said that yoga promotes health, emotional balance by purifying the body and mind and generating positive energy and thoughts in an individual, thus leading to social harmony and cohesion.
In the present technology and highly competitive age yoga alone provides solutions to the several problems besetting human race. Faculty and students practiced yoga asanas in connections with the event. Mr. M. Mahesh Kumar, N.S.S Program officer, Mr. Ashok Kumar, physical Director, and other H.O.Ds participated in the event.
